Sailing Courses in Paradise
What Makes Learning with
Yachtpro Special
- We teach you the art and skills of sailing,
with the certifications you achieve as a testament to your skills;
rather than simply teaching you to operate a yacht to the standard
required to get a certificate.
- We treat you as an individual and aim to fulfill
your aims and aspirations.
- We personalize our course formats with variations
in student numbers and schedules.
- Most courses accommodate students in private
cabins (we didn't know that sharing cabins with people you do
not know, or searching out a room ashore, was an industry norm
until recently told of it by one of our new instructors).
- We maintain an optimum instructor:student ratios
to ensure quality training; our suggested maximum ratio is 1:3.
- Our yachts are set-up to enable you to train
on yachts similar to those you will later sail.
- We have a non-student price should you or a
friend want to sail on the courses without tuition or certification.
- Challenge a Certificate – Experienced sailors
can become certified at a level commensurate with your experience
and skills.
Our Training
As a professional sail training organization, our aim is to equip
you to sail safely and competently at your desired level of proficiency.
Our training, which has been developed over more than 10 years,
teaches you to sail rather than to simply crew.
In keeping with most recognized educational theories, we introduce
the concepts of sailing as a whole then broaden them and go into
more depth.
Timely and correct decision making is imperative for your safety.
Within 2 or 3 days of starting to sail with us, you will be sailing
without an instructor and making your own decisions.
Our syllabus criteria include those of all major training schemes
and have been designed with the benefit of a lifetime of experience
cruising and racing the world's seas. They progress from your first
sail onto Offshore Standard.
Competence and confidence at your desired level is your reward and
your international certificate will be proof of your achievement,
not simply attendance.
The proof of our effectiveness is the many clients who are cruising
and racing around the world, both professionally and recreationally.
Our Approach
Our approach to training is serious. If you're having fun, you'll
learn faster.
Our philosophy is that you learn in a relaxed, friendly environment
and we endeavor to cater for everybody's personal aspirations and
requirements. Your sailing will be fun, safe and both individually
and collectively rewarding.
To be a good sailor and to maximise the benefits of training, a
thorough basic knowledge is imperative. Our progressive approach
facilitates speed of learning and skill acquisition, and the integration
of theoretical and practical components maximises long-term benefits.
We recognise previous sailing experience without formal qualifications,
and undertake courses at a commensurate level. Please when choosing
a course, look carefully at the pre-requisites and ensure you are
comfortable at the level prior to the course you are choosing.
To ensure effective training, we use appropriate vessel's for the
student's experience level and area of training. We never exceed
an instructor:student ratio of 1:3.
All our training vessels are performance oriented designs and are
set up as private owners' vessels rather than charter or fleet boats.
Within our fleet, we can demonstrate just about every sailing system
the recreational sailor would expect to find.
We approach our job very seriously and enjoy sailing, we make every
endeavour to ensure you do too.
Course Structure
Our courses enable you to get the most cost effective and focused
training possible.
We recognize that the vast majority of our students are spending
their holiday time with us and want to enjoy learning to sail on
board rather than in a classroom.
At the initial levels, we combine our theoretical and practical
components to maximize time on the water.
We encourage students aiming at more advanced levels to study the
appropriate theory components prior to arrival.
We have specific pages for each type of course we run:
>>Start Sailing - Courses
are for the novice sailor and range from short Day Sailing courses
to our extremely popular multi-certificate Fast Track Courses.
>>Live-Aboard - These
Live-aboard Courses are for the sailor with some experience and
who are aiming at more broad ranging certifications.
>>Racing - Courses conducted for
aspiring or experienced Racing Sailors in Crew Units
Included in the Course Prices are:
- Day Sailing Courses - All
Yacht Running Expenses, Lunches (when Day Sailing for more than
4 hours), Drinking Water on Board, Yachtpro Course Notes, Examination
and Accreditation Fees and a Yacht Pro T-Shirt.
- Live-aboard Courses - All Yacht
Running Expenses, Meals, Soft drinks & Snacks, Yachtpro Course
Notes, Examination and Accreditation Fees and a Yacht Pro T-Shirt.
- Self Purchase of Texts - We
recommend you purchase texts for pre-study before you leave. We
stock them but they are usually more expensive here due to freight
and tax. A list of recommended texts is on our Texts
and Books page.
- Yachtpro Notes - These are
a supplement to the texts and have been written from experience
and from the feedback of past students.
Booking Basis and Formats
We have formatted courses for families, couples and single
people on tight schedules and have four different booking plans
for each course we offer.
Group Courses – for 3 or more students – may be booked by individuals
– these courses have programmed commencement dates.
2 Student Courses - a maximum two students – these courses are programmed
to suit your travel plans.
1 Student Courses - Private courses for individuals - these courses
are programmed to suit your travel plans.
Reduced student numbers allows greater instructor time with each
student and enable course durations to be condensed.
To illustrate this you can simply divide the number of students
into the time available:
5 days for One instructor & 3 students = Instructor time /Student
= 5/3 = 1.66 days
4 days for One instructor & 2 students = Instructor time /Student
= 4/2 = 2.00 days
The shorter course durations enable you to train to a higher standard
in a given time.
It also means that to get to a given standard, the shorter course
durations save living expenses here. The slightly higher prices
of the Group 2 courses normally more than compensate for additional
time spent here on the Group 3 courses.
We also have the facility to combine multiple short periods to enable
local people to train without a single large time commitment, eg.
1 x Four Day Live-aboard = 2 x 2 Day Live-aboard.
Occasionally non-student positions are available on course sails
at a discounted price.
Certification
Simply handing out certificates with course completion is in no
ones' interest.
Only students who satisfy the examination components and are in
the opinion of their instructor, competent and confident at their
certified level, will be successful.
This way we can sleep at night, knowing that you will be sailing
safely.
We happily recognise previous sailing experience, without formal
qualifications, and undertake courses at a commensurate level.
For certification you will be required to complete written examinations
up to and including the level attained.
Non-Cancellation Policy
Our policy is that we will not cancel courses should other students
cancel their bookings or fail to attend.
Briefing and Course Packs
On booking we provide briefing and personal preference forms and
on arrival we provide you a comprehensive personal course pack.
Accreditations
We are accredited with the International Sailing Schools Association
(ISSA), the American Sailing Association (ASA) and the Australian
Yachting Federation (AYF) and ASA, AYF, and ISSA International World
logbooks are issued to ensure your qualifications are recognized
wherever you choose to sail.
Sailing Consolidation
We make day sailing and live-aboard yachts available for student
consolidation training.

for you at our bases.
