Sailing in Thailand :
Thailand 's waters are amongst the best for sailing and sail training in the
world. The area in the vicinity of Phuket provides some of the worlds most
fascinating cruising grounds, as well as the ideal combination of water depths,
currents and topography for sail training.
You will discover the unique beauty of the islands off Phuket and the weather
enables us to sail all year round.
Sailing Courses:
Why should I do an accredited course? Yachtpro'
s Professional Instructors teach to an accredited syllabus and
will ensure that that you receive all the knowledge that you need
to know. Otherwise you may learn from people who teach you what
they know or what they think you might need to know.
What is the real value of a sailing certification? Yachtpro
Thailand issue ISSA and ASA Certifications and logbooks that are recognised
worldwide and are a testament to proven competency. They are the proof rather
than the goal of our teaching.
How does accreditation work? Most countries with a developed
sailing community have a national body which is accredited with the International
Sailing Federation.
This body has the International Sailing Schools Association (ISS) part of whose
charter is to promote sail training worldwide.
A lot of National Authorities including the American Sailing Association (ASA)
are accredited with the ISS.
As our clients come from all over the world, the International Sailing Schools
Association accreditation is very important as all the members of this body
agree to recognise qualifications issued by other members.
We are accredited with both the ISS and the ASA as well as the Australian Yachting
Federation. This means that we can issue logbooks from any or all of these
three bodies.
Will my logbook issued at Yachtpro be recognized worldwide? Yes,
we do not know of any students having problems converting qualifications
gained here to that of their own country for recreational or pleasure sailing.
Under law, there are certain national differences if qualifications are to
be used for commercial purposes.
Do I need to do the theory component of my course first? Theoretical
knowledge can maximize the benefits of experiential training but in sailing
the two should go hand in hand. While pre-study is always an advantage, we
combine the practical and theoretical elements throughout the courses without
protracted theory only sessions.
What should I look for in a Sail Training Establishment?
- Accreditation - The course you're about to do must be internationally
recognized.
- Service and Efficiency - You're dealings with the establishment
should be easy and are the staff helpful.
- Do they listen? - You must insure that the courses you do are
appropriate to your needs.
- Yachts - Make sure the yachts used are appropriate in size and
design for your course. We once met a person with an Inshore
Skippers qualification who had never hoisted a headsail.
- Insurance - Make sure the company and its vessels are insured.
How much emphasis is placed on my individual requirements? We
do as much as we possibly can. We will send you a Preference Sheet
after booking to ensure we cater for you as an individual.
Why do prices vary between schools? The most prevalent
reason is the student:instructor ratio; if it is high the course
costs are spread over more students but the students get far less
direct instructional time. Costs of yachts, services and support
infrastructure also have a major and direct bearing.
Bareboat, Adventure and Charter Sailing
What will we see when we are sailing? Fantastic
Beaches, Magical Islands , sheer limestone cliffs rising vertically
from an aquamarine sea, hidden tidal caves and secret secluded
lagoons.
If I opt for a Bareboat + instructor ,what emphasis is place on instruction? This
is left totally up to you with regard to the level of training and the time
available. We'll design our program to suit.
What do I need to bring? We supply just about everything
except your clothes, personal items and spending money.
What happens if I've forgotten something? We have a few
personal type items for sale in our office for last minute emergencies.
Never been to Phuket
Will I have problems being understood? No, in
most places that you will go, most Thai's speak at least English
if not a number of other languages. If you chose to go Thai style,
you'll generally be able to communicate with some English and a
fair bit of gesturing…great fun.
What are communications, facilities, roads etc like? Phuket
has excellent facilities and infrastructure.
Are there any Health Issues and Medical Facilities? Phuket
has excellent modern hospitals and clinics. Drink bottled water and be sensible
with what you eat. The other main considerations are motorbike riding and
sunburn.
What's the climate like in Phuket? Warm all year round,
evening showers and wind during the SW monsoon from June to November sunny
and slightly less wind during the NW monsoon from December to May.
Can you sum up Phuket in a nutshell? Friendly people, fantastic
food, cheap shopping, scuba diving, fishing, paragliding, jet skiing, temples,
herbal saunas and spas, elephant safaris, exotic nightlife, waterfalls and...much,
much more.

days your visa will normally be issued on arrival.

Money changing facilities are plentiful and deal in notes, travelers
cheques and credit cards.
